I worked at Knight Transportation full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Knight promotes from within, so if you have a desire to work your way up, there are endless possibilities. There are also a lot of honest people in company leadership.

Cons

The benefits are generally not competitive with other major companies. Additionally, they make people salaried employees once someone is going to be making more than $32,000 per year in order to avoid paying overtime. Long hours, lousy pay.

Advice to Management

There may be a need to hire on an outsider or two to help give a fresh perspective.

I worked at Knight Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They start you at a decent salary, and let you gain some great experience in the "working world". Most terminals have good management, and coworkers.

    Cons

You do not get a raise until you've been there for a year. You don't ANY vacation/PTO until you've worked there for a year, as well. Good luck taking any unpaid days off, because it won't happen. You will have to work 10 hour days, plus extra weekends for free. I had to work 50 hour weeks, plus one weekend a month (16 extra hours). So once a month, I worked 12 days in a row without a day off. You will also have to work some holidays, as well. Once you hit your one year mark, you will only get 5 days of vacation time. You will most likely get burnt out in the first 6 months, hence why the office turnover rate is so high. It was.. an experience.. to say the least. I'm glad I quit Knight and found a company that treats their employees like, well, humans. Not like work horses.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees good vacation! They work an average of 54 hour weeks (usually 60+), plus holidays and weekends. They will just quit, forcing you to have to hire and train new employees, then repeat. How is this efficient?

I have been working at Knight Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is on time and that is about it

    Cons

Always stranded in places other than home. Lots of downtime with nothing to do. Awful driver management and planner personnel. Office personnel have no sense of what real drive time is like and what can be expected and don't care about drivers. Starting here was a big mistake.

    Advice to Management

Hire better driver managers and planners, Use better organization techniques, buy more trailers, listen to your drivers.
