No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great fellow Employees
Good Highshool job for starting out
Fairly flexible schedule

Cons

Minimum wage even, at Customer Service desk.
Have to push credit cards. Their whole focus is CREDIT, you can open 7 credit cards in a 6 hour shift and they will just ask for me.

Advice to Management

Don't push Credit so much!! We understand that is how you get your bonus, but we aren't getting an incentive for it (only .50 cents an app, which is a rip off)

    I worked at Kohl's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Time and a half on holidays. Food on holidays. Rewards for getting "credits"

    Cons

Expect you to do large impossible amounts of work on your own. Not enough people scheduled to work on a daily basis. Managers don't really listen to what you have to say and expect you to do everything to make the stores look nice. You have to give the customer any price they want even if its way cheaper. All the managers care about is getting "credits"!

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees before you lose them all! Their opinions matter.

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1) The discounts are generous especially around the holidays. Also, associates can use several discounts which really helps associates save money.
    2) There's some flexibility in schedules.

    Cons

    1) There is no direction or no good leaders. Managers do not have good communication with each other. No one knows what is going on. No one wants to take responsibility for anything. If they can get you to "take care" of an angry customer without seeing them, they will. Once told "You are given the power to do a lot of things without management". So, apparently management doesn't want to be bothered. Most stay in their office most of their shift then come downstairs hours later and rush associates to finish cleaning the store so that we all can leave. 2) Everyone wants to go by the book for everything, but the books do not work for non-conventional stores. 3) You are expected to get your work done regardless that there is never enough equipment, there isn't proper instructions or time to complete assignments and there is no help to complete large workloads. 4) There aren't many opportunities to advance from retail to corporate. 5) There are no bonuses for associates and raises are very cheap. As much money as the corporation makes, there's no reason for employees to receives quarter raises. Kohl's doesn't want to pay enough, but continues to pile on more responsibility for less money.

    Advice to Management

When associates come to you with feedback that you perceive to be negative, stop trying to spin the associates experiences and figure out how you can actually help resolve the problem. Instead of management helping, they want to find the positive side of things and that's not helpful when a problem hasn't been resolved.
