I have been working at Kohl's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive pay
    Above-average vacation time
Caring upper-level management (from my experience)
Great exposure opportunities for college grads

Develop your management style/techniques while working for a retailer with national notoriety. Great people with great skills reside within the organization; these people are accessible and willing to help you grow. Lots of networking opportunities, which is key in moving up in the company.

    Cons

Business is profitable due to low facilities/associate payroll and high profit margins
    Heavy workload
    Ambiguous merchandising direction
    Long, long hours

It takes a lot of extra face time to get noticed. Bad visits could really set you back, depending on how you take the criticism. There are not enough hours in a week to get everything done, which can be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

More payroll, please! Stores will look better, service will be better, sales will increase, consumer/brand perception will improve. Update your technology to today's standards.

    I worked at Kohl's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

When I started working for Kohl's fifteen years ago it was a wonderful place to work. I actually looked forward to going to work. The managers were wonderful - Kohl's was actually a fun place to work.

    Cons

California stores are run differently than the original mid-west locations. No appreciation what-so-ever from the management team along with incomplete training given to new employees - excuse being 'there isn't enough payroll for training' made employee morale non-existant. Management turn over is horrendous. Unrealistic demands regarding credit. Kohl's is constantly in violation of Labor Laws.

    Advice to Management

Treat hourly associates with more respect - without them you would not have a store to manage - be more hands-on ... it's easier to understand something when you yourself have had to accomplish the same expected goal.
