I have been working at Kroll Ontrack full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Exciting field of business.
Possible that it could be great again with time.
I love my co-workers. They care and they're brilliant.
Mentally challenging work--no boredom here when it comes to learning about the latest features of our tools.

    Cons

Lots of incompetent management, not so much at the upper-tiers anymore since they're being replaced with "outsiders", but the "home-grown" middle managers are pretty much useless and just detrimental to morale. There's a lot of scrambling to figure out what process we should follow to create a good product even though all the "peons" can see the big gaping hole in our product is knowledge of our customers and what they need. The "crack the whip" mentality from middle management seems to be getting worse as they feel the pressure from above to stop coasting by doing things how we've "always done them" instead of trying to find better ways to do it. There's been some half-assed attempts at "change", but ultimately, it ends in disappointment and yet another failed product. Morale is in the pits--I can't think of one competent person there that enjoys their job, let alone loves it.

    Advice to Management

Clean house with middle management get some people in that actually have a background in managing people instead of having the only requirement be that they have a development degree from St. Cloud State. Keep trying new things and for our sake, get some customer knowledge!
