I worked at L-3 Communications as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Management was great! senior level management took interest in me (a lowly intern) and made sure that I had the resources and the contacts to succeed at my job. My immediate management trained me well and worked with me not just around me.

There is a wide ranged of people working there and the environment there is one of cooperation so that the engineers work with the mechanics, HR, management, and sales to make the best project without much fuss over rank.

Project focused with enough flexibility to listen to new ideas

Cons

Due to being a Defense contract employee, your time is strictly monitored and categorized.

Employees defining goals and deadlines of projects were not always the employees with the best understanding of the project and would require unrealistic or unnecessary benchmarks.

I have been working at L-3 Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large knowledge base. Great salaries for the area. Interesting cutting-edge technology and products.

    Cons

Pressures of the ups and downs of the defense industry. Advancement from within is very difficult. Work satisfaction is very dependent on the manager (very hit and miss with managers).

    Advice to Management

Make L-3 a more enjoyable place to work with increasing employee perks instead of cuts.

I have been working at L-3 Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people working there that were willing to help when youngsters needed information.

    Cons

Upper management were very unorganized. There were constant issues with deliverable to the government. Either late or just down right wrong. Upper management had issues handing down workloads and then would do so when overwhelmed and had no time left. Communication issues all the time.
