I have been working at L3 Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Felt respected from day one despite starting in an entry-level position. Was progressively handed more challenging and interesting projects in just a few months. Flex hours and paid over time are great(especially for a salaried position).

Cons

Upward mobility seems limited. At the Waco site, software engineers seem to be second-class citizens. Their intranet promises 100% funding for continued education(masters degree, etc), but there is actually a cap per year.

I have been working at L3 Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

decent foot in the door for industrial and systrm processes and decent time off flexibility.

    Cons

no apparent recognition for exceeding performance work metrics, location is highly seniority and network biased promotion system. Little or no developing or progressional development for educationally qualified individuals, if you are hired on the bottom tier, the bottom tier you shall stay despite qualified ability.

    Advice to Management

Track, mentor, and develop internal candidates, know and care about your potential... some take a job well over qualified just to move up in a potentially lucrative or rewarding industry.

I worked at L3 Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a technology based company who's core competence is government contracts. Employees are generally competent, hard working and professional. The company covers a very broad spectrum of technologies and expertise.

    Cons

The war has been good to L-3. The company has grown rapidly through acquisition of other government contract companies. Corporate L-3 is a holding company, L-3 is fragmented, a composite of 50 or so companies that function independently from each other. It was difficult to comply with many of the rules that came down from corporate because they were often not applicable to specific organizations applied out of context. It was not uncommon for two organizations to bid on the same contract.

    Advice to Management

Choose who you want to be as a company and unite your organizations.
