Pros

the people. Great co-workers and senior management was very approachable. Loved the location despite being in Camden. It was easy to get to. Got an adequate raise every year and received positive feedback when I went out of my way to do a good job. Felt respected by the majority of senior management. AND they have a beautiful gym and cafeteria which is utilized by many employees at all times of the day.

Cons

not enough consideration given employees for work/life balance. Human resources is simply a department to allow some bad managers the opportunity to mistreat and disrespect some employees

Advice to Management

Exhibit a little less nepotiism when making hiring and lay off decisions.

"Low pay, little promotion opportunities, management is not up to par, but the benefits are good."

    Pros

Centrally located with good benefits. Love the week long plant closure.

    Cons

Others take credit for your work. HR tries to control the company and puts down unrealistic planning and rules. Changes are made without notification to employees that can remove them from positions. Raises are non-existent to the populace and are granted to some for no obvious reason (GOOD OLE BOY NETWORK is alive and well). Management has no idea what is going on in their own plant. No promotional opportunities. Pay is lower than competition.

    Advice to Management

Put Human Resources back where they belong in a support placement for the employees. Change your operations director to someone more well rounded with a tolerance of other people who can perform well without unjustified freak outs and a temperament that isn't constantly trying to fire anyone he doesn't personally like. Disperse information to all employees on a timely basis. Stop the notion that if employees give feedback they get reprimanded. Re-institute the revolving door policy to managers officers without reprimand. Put someone who is trustworthy into the Ethics Manager's position. Replace the HR Director with a HR Manager or Representative who is approachable and doesn't threaten to fire employees but instead offers a hand in helping them with whatever situation they are coming to see them for.

    Pros

Pay and benefits packages are above average from what I've seen. Job security is as good as it can be if you're working on a contract, but above average if you're overhead (anyone not directly working on a project). Structured policies mean regular reviews and pay increases. Training (both internal and external) as well as departmental transfers are readily available.

    Cons

Bloated overhead staff is great for job security but obnoxious for an actual work environment. Lots of people unneeded or underutilized - very frustrating if you're someone who takes your job seriously. Pretty significant favoritism to ex military (not surprising for this line of work). Amenities seen in similarly sized are fairly absent (facility related). On the IT side - lots of out of date policies that are inflexible and annoying to work around. Frequent reorgs (common for this size company as well).

    Advice to Management

Take IT more seriously as a company. When your HR department is 3 times the size of your IT department, something isn't working right.
