I worked at LA Fitness part-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Flexible schedule, free membership to workout, nice group of fitness instructors who are generally very knowledgable about their particular classes- i.e. Zumba, yoga, spinning, clean and reasonably well maintained gym, very nice aerobics studio- large, mirrors and good sound system

Cons

low pay, no innovation with group exercise classes or new types of workout equipment. Some members can be rude or surly in class, talk on their cellphone, etc. Definitely no chance for advancement or raises. I think I got a .75 cent raise once and I worked there for 7 years

Advice to Management

add some variety to the LA Fitness workout experience -order new and different types of props, keep up with current exercise "fads" because that's what members want, but these preferences change quickly. Treat fitness instructors with respect for their specialized skills and recognize that they are teaching mostly because they love to teach and for the free membership because the pay is nothing.

I have been working at LA Fitness full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The gym itself is generally nice.

    Cons

Management is crooked. They will charge training to random cards. No guidelines or rules. Commission based.

I have been working at LA Fitness part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun envirenment and you don't have to worry about sales if your a personal trainer because front office does all that for you. However...(see the cons)

    Cons

Front office rips you off. You make peanuts compared to what an independent personal trainer makes.

    Advice to Management

Stop jacking up rates for clients and giving nothing to the PT's. No wonder there is such a high turnover rate.
