Pros

Location of firm and the actual office space. A fine group of co-workers.

Cons

Pay is below Portland standards. It is a creatively stifling work environment. A "that's how we've always done it" mentality runs deep.

Advice to Management

Daily operations need to be reviewed and a better system put into place. Projects suffer and employees suffer in the current condition of employee moral.

I worked at LRS Architects full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Nice office environment. Good "middle of the road" kind of office, Not too pretentious, not too behind the times.

    Cons

Embarrassingly low compensation compared to other firms. Management does not support staff needs as well as it should. Chaotic at times. Limited growth opportunities. Talented people do not last very long, which seems to drain moral. Above average turn-over. Better office environment than it was 10 years ago, so they are improving.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. There is a long running reputation that management does not value staff at this firm, something along "a dime a dozen". Best firms value and support employees. Good people will (and want) stick around if they believe management is supportive. They ultimately leave because of management, not because of co-workers.
