Pros

The work environment is fairly casual. There seems to be a genuine desire to be on the cutting edge of technology. In my personal experience, salary compensation seems to be fair. The people who work at LSI tend to be proud to be part of the company, and proud of the products that the company produces. There is a sense of camaraderie that binds individual teams together. It is also a diverse workforce, and seems to be supportive of employees from all walks of life. During the recent economic downturn, the management team has been open about the companies position and strategies.

Cons

At times, internal teams do not do the best job of communicating with each other. Middle-level management does not always have the technical acumen need to be successful in their positions. At times, work/life balance issues arise, as the desire to meet customer deadlines result in management pushing teams far beyond their endurance, resulting in morale issues. The stock price has rendered the incentiveness of stock options as next to nothing. Sometimes, there seems to be a "buddy" system among management, where all of the managers seem to be close friends outside of work, which leads to impressions that they would be more willing to please or impress their "friends", as opposed to properly leading their teams.

Advice to Management

Be as transparent as possible.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The pay and benefits are generally very good compared to other industries in the area. Management is very flexible when it comes to work schedules and time off. Flex time is very common, depending on your position and current work assignment you may be able to work from home one or two days per week. Work atmosphere is very good, most employees are very friendly and in most cases everyone works together well and is supportive. You can always find people willing to help brainstorm to solve problems and fins solutions. Benefits are on par or even better than some other companies even though healthcare copays continue to rise.

    Cons

Very tough industry currently. Very large layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with employees about the future of all business units.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Interesting business, exciting industry. Decent work/life balance. Decent compensation for higher level engineers. Nice and friendly environment, people in the Longmont office are nice. Typically there are nice holiday parties and summer outings.

    Cons

Longtime (tenured) AT&T/Lucent/Agere holdouts. Slow to adapt to changing market conditions. Too many managers, no room for advancement. Politics factor into technical promotions rather than technical merit. Nonexistent raises, no corrections for market rates during promotions. It would be nice if the senior management would respond to market conditions more quickly, and reward hard work more effectively. Layoffs often times appear to be chosen without regard to ability, schedule impact, or what makes sense.

    Advice to Management

    Reward good engineers better.
