Pros

There was at least a lot of freedom network wise, however this is due to the absolute lack of technical knowledge in the company. The network engineer became, network manager, designer, escalations, head of security and customer consultant.

Cons

The rumblings started the moment I joined. The network manager and fellow network engineer left within a month. I was left to fill both these positions, as well as my own, all by myself as they didn't rehire. As an ex Cisco engineer, I began trying to standardise processes within the ticketing system, shock people with topology diagrams because they had never seen one before, and document the basics as none of this had been done by the previous teams. It then came to light after 7 months that redundancies were coming, and it came out that this was a religious thing that happens every year! As the only network engineer I was then made redundant, and after speaking to people in confidence it turns out that's the tactic of the company on all levels, not just in the IT department. The decision was clearly based on who's friends with who and left me emotionally scarred as they actually made me write a document trying to convince them to keep me, which was clearly never taken seriously. The management had absolutely haemorrhaged the budget, due to lack of experience and knowledge. One of the managers only experience is being a support engineer for Labtech and didn't even know what High Availability even means., yet it was me that was chosen for redundancy. The team are the least knowledgeable I have ever worked with, and the environment is a toxic, boyish atmosphere, with "the lads" playing the next video game rather then help out the team. All escalations came to myself, which is an easy copout for both the dwindling support team and unknowledgeable managers. As you meet the senior management they call themselves the "family", all flown in from Israel and ready to click in your face and shout at the management/engineers until a project has been completed. An utter sham, and it's only through fear that they haven't been sued by my predecessors.
