Pros

Liberal, open-minded, very pro bono-oriented.

Cons

Too many layers of management and required approvals.

Advice to Management

Loosen up or risk stifling creativity. Be sure you know what the practice of law means, even if you're not attorneys.

    Pros

Good culture for a big firm, particularly in the Southern California offices.

    Cons

Basically what you'd expect from a big firm.

  2. "Solid firm for biglaw practice"

I worked at Latham & Watkins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The firm's California origins seem to have had a positive impact on the culture. Though make no mistake, this is biglaw and a good culture won't change the hours or the workload. Nor does it completely eliminate everyone who is a pain to work with.

    Cons

The large number of layoffs during the "Great Recession" hurt morale and raised some valid questions about management's vision for ideal staffing levels and leverage.

    Advice to Management

Keep up a healthy mentoring program, the sharing of some financials with associates, and 360 degree reviews.
