I have been working at Level 3 Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Strong culture of collaboration. Great place to learn a lot of new skills and about the telecommunications industry. On-site gym is a nice perk.

Cons

Middle management manages upwards. Upper management isolated from employees and quick to engage in frequent RIFs that disrupt releases and team morale.

Advice to Management

Try and ride out the slow quarters instead of laying people off and killing productivity.

I have been working at Level 3 Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some great people to work with, some of whom are willing to drop everything and answer your questions or direct you to the right person.

    Cons

Company overall does not care about an individuals performance. No real reward in a position, mentality is "just be glad you have a job." Yay!!!

    Advice to Management

Stop treating individuals as one big resource - lumped together as one group, including the slackers. Look at individual performances and reward those who really care about position, the processes and how something should be done correctly.

I have been working at Level 3 Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good employees. Great corporate office.

    Cons

Not a lot of training for positions once you have job. Performance reviews compare you to senior fellow employees without a ramp up time in new positions, this means no raise or bonus. Direction changes quarterly (as in most telecom companies). Buy out of Global Crossing over a year ago still causing layoffs, be prepared.
