Pros

Excellent work life balance. Opportunities to move around the company. Solid advancement opportunities. Easy to go back to school and obtain advanced degree or other professional designation. Ability to act independently.

Cons

Not enough transparency with issue affecting employees.

Advice to Management

Be transparent with what is going on with reorgs and lay offs. We've gone thru tremendous upheavel over the past year and yet, most of it has been cloaked in secrecy. This erodes trust of your most loyal employees. If Sr Mgt is going to talk aobut how the company's most important asset is it's people, then it's critically important for mgt to be more open about what is happening witht the reorgs and lay offs. People are nervous -- and this leads to lack of trust and poor productivity.

    Pros

The senior management team is relatively young but very bright and aggressive. They have a philosophy of taking no prisoners - live up to my expectations, unreasonable or not, or be fired. Liberty is full of good-hearted people. Many unhappy employees stay with the company because of their relationships with coworkers. Pay is satisfactory; you won't get rich unless you are in senior management. Benefits are satisfactory. For a long time, the company seemed to be a stable and secure employer; then they laid me off after 20 years.

    Cons

Due to the highly competitive nature of the industry, change is constant. Expect a major reorganization or acquisition every few years. The company has continually shifted costs of benefits (such as health insurance) to employees. There is a social class structure; managers often look down on staff, and professional workers often look down on admin staff. The recent layoffs appear to be disproportionately eliminating older, more experienced employees.

    Advice to Management

Be loyal to long-term employees. Recognize the commitment and dedication reflected in their many years of service.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The primary reason to work for Liberty is to get started and licensed in insurance. Take advantage of the great training program for new agents. The biggest drawback is that once you understand the training it never ends. You are subjected to the same continous training and meetings whether you have been with the company for 3 years or 3 weeks. It becomes very repetitive after a while.

    Cons

Commissions are lower than most of the industry. Renewal commisions are wayyy lower than industry average. Lofty quotas and constant pressure are a way of life. Unfortunately, the amount of pressure is not made up for with additional compensation. Bonuses are difficult to qualify for.

    Advice to Management

Make the quotas less ominous and offer incentives for agents to stay with the company.
