Pros

Good vacation, good training, diverse work environment.

Cons

You will be just a number and not many opportunities to advance because of the sheer number of employee's competing for few advancement opportunities.

    Pros

Nice desk, nice chair and coworkers.

    Cons

No upward options, unless you really, really kiss butt. It is not what you know, it is who you know and how well they like you. The company would rather hire an outside candidate who knows nothing about insurance than top promote from within. And that outside person they just hired? Well, he/she will not be doing their for for at least 4-6 weeks as they sit in a classoroom and get a 1-2 month crash course on the entire world of insurance and claims. But hey, you have worked there for many years and have a huge knowledge of the business, but they would rather you sit right where you are and make less than newly hired colleagues. The company preference is to keep skilled workers paid less until they quit or get fired. Also, the management never listens to real ideas about problems or needed changes. Don't ever point out someone's mistake because the company would rather you ignore it and sweep it away. You will look more and more like a trouble maker and instigator if you find errors or room for improvement.

    Advice to Management

    Get all new management.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable, okay benefits, work life balance

    Cons

Limited scope for development, no retention of talented employees, Benefits slashed

    Advice to Management

Worked for the company for seven years, a good start for career right out of college. Benefits seemed good compared to peers but then took a nosedive. Starting from a 7% full match to down to 3.5% along with a 35% reduction in pension. Currently doing away with pension and replacing with a cash option where Liberty does not have to share any risks if a retiree lives longer. Company reputation took a nosedive with greedy CEO Ted Kelly raking in 250Mil in 5 years while employees benefits and pay suffered and policyholders got larger and larger bills in the mail. The concept of "Mutual" company is a joke, they freely write each other big bonus checks intead of paying back the policyholders and the board approves the same in return for $300K paychecks. No efforts to retain employees walking out the door with experience and talent. Seven years worth of investment in training could have been prevented if the manager had the smarts to do something. HR is clueless about talent within the company, and seem focussed on getting their own promotions. Favoritism is rampant and back stabbing is usual. If you have other offers on hand, reconsider them. Mr. Long has a long way to go before employees feel engaged here, no matter how many EOS surveys are sent out.
