I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than a year)

Pros

An abundance of great opportunities at the bottom, supportive and responsive supervisors and managers. Straight forward and open compensation strategy.

Cons

I have not experienced any to date. There are of course the normal elements of any large organization but nothing that sticks out or has been a significant hurdle.

Advice to Management

Let's be the first major corporation to design a compensation package at the executive level that ends the companies financial liability to executives when they leave. The image of a few getting million dollar annual exit packages while pensions for the rank and file are constantly cutback should is a problem worthy of a solution

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits such as 401(k) matching which vests after 2 years and pension which vests after 5 years. Bonuses are provided annually based on performance reviews. Good dental, vision, and medical benefits.

    Cons

Particularly in the legal department, many experienced senior legal support staff and attorneys were laid off in 2009-1010, and either replaced by incompetent or inexperienced individuals, or not replaced at all. This led to low office morale in many offices. Cost-cutting is happening at every corner if your department does not bring in revenue (i.e., legal and claims).

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a very good "new hire training program" with some competitive products in the local market. Very good benefits and decent starting pay.

    Cons

They lack a follow through with training after initial 90 day period which leads to an enormous turnover rate among the sales staff. Direct management has less involvement in the career development and more to do with micro-managing your activity.

    Advice to Management

Try to spend more time qualifying managers to see if they can develop your reps. This would lead to a positive environment which in itself would help breed success and lower turnover.
