I worked at Lidl full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Well Paid
Company car - fully expensed
Manage your own schedule

Cons

Everything in done with pen and paper - bare-bones I.T.
Unrealistic targets which are constantly increased if they are met.
Work is duplicated at various levels - internally no one trusts each other
Constant change in assigned tasks without any communication of the end goal
Constantly pushed to be a mean manager, you are not allowed to show respect for colleagues.

Advice to Management

Invest in I.T.
Treat employees with respect
Trust and internal collaboration will save you more money than the quasi-militaristic culture

    I worked at Lidl full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    good for a short term role to get some office experience (very popular with native germans or german graduates from english uni's) and then move on!

    Cons

    - terrible pay, you can do much better else where.
    - incredibly high turnover of staff (roughly one member of staff leaving per month on average)
    - management are unorganised, useless at making decisions and hire staff with no office experience or who are interested in only hanging around for 6 months before leaving.
    - managers do not motivate staff or offer positive feedback leaving staff feeling undervalued.

    Advice to Management

    -increase salary
    -offer career progression
    - support your staff

    I have been working at Lidl full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    If you're willing to put in some hard work, long hours and engage a least a bit of your brain then the opportunities to progress from store assistant to store management roles can be achieved relatively quickly.

    Cons

    The working patterns can really mess up your work/life balance. Quite often I would work a 10am - 8.30 shift and then be back in again at 6am the following morning. These sort of working patterns seemed to affect a lot of the staff in-store.
     Everyday is pretty much exactly the same, which maybe a pro point to some people, however if you require some change don't work here or any retail job for that matter.
    Upper levels of management have no clue what it is like to work in-store and often insist on duties being performed when you really do not have any time left.
    It really is quite demanding some days and you can be pushed hard to get all of your jobs done. Staff expecting an easy ride do not last long here. Don't expect much of a break either. 15 - 20 mins break on a 8 or 10 hour shift.

    Advice to Management

    When introducing new policies in store and ways of working, please first come in and complete a particular task on a busy day to make sure that it is possible within that given day. Too often orders are given which just means you end up not bothering with a break and working longer hours to get them done.
