I worked at Lids full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

very easy to move up in the company if you're a good salesman and if the store management likes you

Cons

Tons of busy work all the time that is really unimportant, inappropriate conference calls that could be said in an email. You literally do a lot of work for free (off the clock) making deposits transferring inventory from store to store in your your car with no compensation at all

Advice to Management

Get better management, be more organized

on your feet all day...and I mean ALL DAY

    Advice to Management

Make sure to communicate up and down the food chain...there are a lot of good ideas floating around in the stores!

I worked at Lids full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent insurance and PTO for full time employees. Mostly good products at fair market prices. The extras you are expected to sell are useful to the customers, not scams. Good environment to learn retail. Great auditors/ LP dept.

    Cons

Too much turnover at all levels. Embroidery is too labor intensive when the machine is not working properly, which happens quite often. Tendency over time to add to duties and expectations without a realistic view of how these additions can be accomplished. Hit or miss District Managers (some are very good, supportive and knowledgeable; others are more interested in CYA.) Tendency to enact change for the sake of change, rather than to improve the business.

    Advice to Management

Allow experienced managers more flexibility in running the stores. You cannot have a company wide floorset when every store is of a different size and shape. You cannot have a company wide schedule template when peak times are different at each location. The underlying ideas behind concepts like these are sound, they just fall apart in practice. District Managers need closer supervision as many poor ones are able to slide on by.
