Pros

Great work life balance. Good locations.

Cons

Finance systems are beyond old. All offline solutions. Contractor culture generating too many quick fix solutions to "deliver" projects.

Advice to Management

Invest in IT infrastructure and use experienced employees not contractors to plan these changes.

"Terrible culture of blame and bullying in main IT areas, and is hugely bureaucratic and immobile."

I worked at Lloyds Banking Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent amount of holiday. Reasonable benefits. UK-based staff in junior roles work well as a team.

    Cons

Benefits eroded by stealth in recent years. Failure of management to accept that the many issues in the past few years are due to policy of offshoring key roles. Other key people have been overwhelmed and left before the workload made them ill. Bullying, finger pointing, penny pinching, and an incredible amount of red-tape have made it essentially impossible to do anything to a good standard.

    Advice to Management

Accept that it's not working, and change tack. And it's no good paying lip service to people culture. You actually HAVE to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.

"Poorly managed in the IT department at a senior level - far too much politics and problem shifting."

    Pros

    - Good work-life balance
    - Salary is OK - not special but OK
    - Overall bank leadership has the right strategy
    - Good culture amongst lower levels to help get things done

    Cons

    - IT management is excessively short-term - constant firefighting at the expense of long-term plans
    - Culture of problem-shifting - not solving problems
    - No willingness to address difficult issues

    Advice to Management

    - Be genuinely transparent about your plans and let the teams execute them
    - Stop micro-managing
    - Simplify operations
