I worked at Lockheed Martin as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good opportunities for college students to get started in a potentially hands-on position.
    - Possibilities to learn new skills through job rotation or advanced degrees they help you pay for.
    - Flexible job hours for most positions. If you're the type to plan 3 day weekends or get to work late and leave late, or get to work early and leave early without advanced notice, you'll likely enjoy the system. Some employees are able to telecommute.
    - The company is so big that there are frequently opportunities to switch jobs within the company. It's good to know there are different options, especially options that work on interesting, important, and stimulating projects.
    - Potentially entertaining work environment. Lots of friendly, skilled, funny, and enjoyable coworkers dispersed among the company.

    Cons

    - Salaries aren't that competitive for talented / standout workers. Even if you're way more productive than senior developers, you likely need advanced degrees and years within the company to get substantial wages. It's nice that it's steady money but knowing you are skilled enough that you could make more money faster elsewhere draws away young professionals.
    - Incompetent or mediocre employees are everywhere, so it's likely that you have to do a lot of work and teaching if you want your project to succeed.
    - Lots of skilled employees work overtime for sometimes not much benefit. It's not unlikely that your wasted evenings are due to non-productive peers.
    - If you want to move up, you often have to sacrifice doing any of the hands-on work you're interested in and work more as a manager and businessman.
    - Lots of compliance training, meetings, etc that are boring and not productive. To Lockheed's defense, lots of the bureaucratic stuff is required by law.

    Advice to Management

Identify and reward top performers quickly to retain talent. Offer more lucrative non managerial technical positions. Easily allow interviews to be rigorous / technical so the best candidates can be identified. Managers, pay more attention to performance and productivity and less attention to STARS entry.

    Pros

lots of overhead and room to develop if you want

    Cons

youre a number in the system

    Advice to Management

more incentives to attract the talent and keep it. profit sharing to the engineers too not just the management. if you dont have engineers creating things for this country, what are you going to manage and sell? this is why korea and other countries are dominating.
