I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Lots of company discounts and networking and cross-training opportunities

Cons

Benefits are not what they should be; feedback to management is discouraged

Advice to Management

Pare down the management; the structure preferred by Lockheed Martin involves a lot of chiefs and not a lot of Indians. You'll be able to afford better Indians if you're paying fewer chiefs to fight among themselves. Also, whistleblowing and ethical concerns...well, let's just say that both were discouraged and punished in whatever way was available without being accused of retaliation.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time

    Pros

Its a big company - it can absorb bad years better than other smaller companies. They work hard to keep good employees. I've been very impressed with the quality of the management. Lockheed does a lot of cool stuff.

    Cons

Business has been in a slump the last few years and there are much fewer opportunities for lateral or upward movement. Compensation is average at best. Lockheed is made up of several business groups, and all are not equal with compensation. (some get bonuses, more PTO, etc.)

    Advice to Management

You've got to treat your good long-term employees better, don't just focus on the new hires.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They do their best to treat the employee with respect, and provide interesting projects. A very large company with locations across the U.S., so opportunities to move are plentiful. Excellent leadership development program.

    Cons

A defense contractor in this economy makes it hard to get decent raises and/or get promoted. Lots of layoffs in the last 3 years. Although the company was very "top heavy", the layoffs are correcting that issue but that also means less higher level positions for those trying to move up.
