I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

LM provides opportunities to work on large-scale complex projects of national importance. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of training opportunities. Most employees are highly qualified. This organization offers different career advancement paths depending on interests/qualifications (e.g. scientists, engineers, MBAs).

Cons

Annual reviews require managers to identify a specific percentage of employees as poor performers (even if they estimate that some individuals do not deserve to be categorized as such...)

Advice to Management

Careful hiring, training and leadership prevents employees from performing poorly. Employee performance should be driven by their performance (...), not a theoretical distribution.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally family friendly with some work/life balance depending on department, every other off Friday schedule is nice if you can afford the longer hours in-between, relatively stable

    Cons

Older leadership mentality doesn't recognize or reward performance, expects "time on job" to be the basis for advancement to avoid confrontation of poorer performing employees, expects younger generations to "wait their turn" for promotion opportunities just like they did in the 70s and 80s. Medical benefit costs are rising quickly with high premiums and high deductibles.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and reward top performers in a timely manner so they don't go elsewhere, avoid the "time on job" requirement for promotion opportunities

    Pros

Competitive wages and a challenging work environment.

    Cons

Overall compensation package suffers because the cost of the contract. Large company in a contacting field makes it difficult to feel part of the company.
