I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Good environment to work. Professionals at all levels. Benefits are competitive and generally it is a good place to be. Good long term place to be with a decent retirement. Average with the current benefits.

Cons

Not competitive. Poorly organized. Not cost effective. Good at huge programs but not flexible enough to compete in the new environment of smaller budgets and shifting requirements.

Advice to Management

Make the big changes that you need to compete. What got you here won't get you any further. Major changes need to happen.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Started out with solid benefits, competitive pay, chance to take on exciting/challenging problems (no shortage of ownership/responsibilities for those looking to excel).

    Cons

Highly influenced by government politics with diminishing customer diversity. Though current Corporate/Space Systems executive leadership have 100+ collective years of experience at LM, they seem ill-prepared to navigate changing financial, political, and technical environment (ex. Commercial Ventures effort seems like a feeble attempt to breathe new life into the business). Simply put, LM Space Systems has fallen out of favor. What is particularly frustrating is the lack of transparency between executive leadership and workforce.

    Advice to Management

Invest $$$ in R&D to keep company afloat. Commercial Ventures IR&Ds are too little/too late. Figure out clear roles responsibilities among 3 major Space Systems Facilities and communicate that "down". For that matter - ditch the dead weight and pyramid shaped hierarchy; see NetApp for examples on culture, communication, & and structure.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very demanding work environment with as many challenges as one can handle. Able to coordinate efforts between engineering, marketing, business development, procurement, legal, operations, etc. I knew exactly who I was working for and their mission. Being able to coordinate that with the organization has been a unmatched experience.

    Cons

No complaints here. Work environment was very rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Work was very rewarding when I was there in 2007.
