Pros

There are lots of fun and smart people to work with. Lots to learn, and good compensation. It's a great for students who are in school or just out of school.

Cons

Current economic situation has greatly decreased budgets causing many people to leave.

Advice to Management

Don't support your students and then let them go upon graduating.

I have been working at Los Alamos National Laboratory full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

LANL is a government facility so it offers a great learning landscape. It is located in a beautiful area. It is possible to eliminate commuting from your life here. Los Alamos is a small town with a very forward way of thinking. It offers stable employment for professionals.

    Cons

Because it's government work, it is orchestrated by several different agencies so is very frustrating. From a Procurement point of view, the work is very cumbersome and overly detailed. Communication is difficult because the facility encompasses 22 square miles.

    Advice to Management

Bechtel needs to stop trying to think of this facility as a "Project". It isn't one. Management needs to stop doing risk avoidance and start doing risk assessment.
