I worked at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Low stress if all you want is a paycheck and do not rock the boat (go with the flow without questions.)

Job preservation has been given priority (be it presure from unions and/or non-unionized employees...)

Cons

Highly political, management heavy, budget issues have resulted in very low morale.
New employee benefits (pension and such) more stringent that for those already there 20+ years.

Advice to Management

Do not allow politics to overrule sound judgement.

I worked at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some really great and dedicated people are there.

    Cons

Unfortunately, those that are dedicated and treat teachers with respect, are leaving because of upper management at LAUSD.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of John Deasy.

I have been working at Los Angeles USD part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company and higher pay than other school districts. Great access to professional development opportunities, if you know where to look. Lots of amazing educational professionals.

    Cons

Large company and the bureaucracy is mind numbing. Educators are subject to furlough days and pay cuts while expected to raise test scores and improve student achievement. The math just doesn't add up.
