    I worked at Lowe's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is general demand for positions. Bad employees are weeded out for the most part. They are updating some technologies to make it less dependent on labor (iphones, ipads). There's rumors they might switch some operations to be only at night so the schedule should be more consistent. Their website is improving but that is largely to lower labor needs. It can be easy to pick up some seasonal work in the summer but that's about it. This is a side job for the most part.

    Cons

Corporate might tell management to do something but there is no voice back to tell them if they have done it. The schedule makes little sense. Is it that hard to have somewhat fixed hours or days? Other retailers do not have this problem
Training is more of a joke than anything else. If you honestly think that employees give DIY advice they cannot due to the market and the liabilities involved. In short this is Walmart with nuts and bolts. The company largely considers only Home Depot to be competition but it has changed a tad.
The company has gone from opening 100 stores a year to maybe 10. If you want to move up the only ways to do so is to wait for someone to pass away, get fired or quit. Housing will be the last part of the economy to pick up so things will be slow for quite some time.

    Advice to Management

Obey the corporation. Don't think that somehow this is a franchise. Understand that policy must be implemented. To corporate gut the sponsorship of nascar and stupid commercials. Put money in the store because that is where the money counts.
