I have been working at Lowe's full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great employees and culture that keeps the work environment fun, friendly and clean. Starting pay is very competitive for other retail positions. Great opportunities to learn valuable hands on skills for doing your own home improvement projects. Opportunities for advancement provided you demonstrate yourself as capable.

Cons

More and more decisions and processes are being centralized at corporate offices giving less flexibility in the stores to modify certain aspects to fit their customers.

I have been working at Lowe's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are good benefits available, paid vacation time, and the pay is decent. Employee discount of 10% is not bad, either.

    Cons

Management is unprofessional, and puts more effort in feeding customer's egos than they do encouraging or supporting the employees. Then they wonder why morale is low. System of bonuses is based on sales, as well as many other aspects of the business that none of the hourly employees have any control over, which results in hourly employees getting few or no bonuses. Store managers, however, seem to get a bonus every other week. The company spends more money on making sure each store location has fancy iPhones for the department employees to use and pushing them to use the latest apps and internet based programs than they do actually making sure the programming is up to par. The computer systems they use are ancient, and customers don't understand why the employees can't perform many functions on the computers to assist them. The company works against itself to make sure the managers get paid well and the store managers get to take a yearly trip to the store manager meeting in Las Vegas, but the hourly employees end up looking like idiots who can't work the dinosaur computer systems and have to take attitude from customers who like to tell them about how much money they spend there each month without flinching. If you are lucky enough to make it to a full time employee, you're stuck in that position whether you like it or not. Even when positions for jobs are posted, it doesn't do any good to apply, because the position has already been decided on before the managers even interview for them. It's all boils down to who you are friends with and how brown your nose is.

    Advice to Management

Grow up and learn how to actually manage, support, and encourage your employees instead of kissing stuck up, snobby customers' rear ends.
