Pros

Great opportunity for training and advancement if you are willing to move. Policy and procedure is followed strictly which makes it easy to know what to expect in situations.

Cons

In order to be promoted you must be able to transfer anywhere in the country. There is very little consideration given to where you would like to live.

Advice to Management

Have more corporate office involvement in new markets such as the west coast. Make more of an effort to balance work life for management.

    Pros

Great fellow employees. Dedicated to doing their best and trying to succeed in meeting the company's stated goals for customer service.

    Cons

Management preoccupied with rules and reports. No training whatever for new hires, except sitting at a computer to complete courses that the company requires so that management can check off the box that you completed the courses. On the job training required by the company is signed off by HR but not done. Store generally understaffed on most shifts so that employees need to cover more areas than is possible to deliver good customer service. You can get fired for punching out late, but it's OK to walk away from a customer to punch out on time.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the people and they will take care of you. Allow for training time in the schedule. Pay attention to the skills and abilities of the hourly people who actually deliver the service which differentiates Lowe's from all others. Give them some latitude in deciding how to manage their responsibilities during a shift - don't shove them around into various jobs like trained pigs. Give them a chance to contribute their ideas to the process, learn new things and get better and more valuable to the company. Listen to their suggestions on how to improve conditions and service. If a rule is so important that it absolutely cannot be broken, then don't put the hourly into a position where he/she must either break the rule or be rude to a customer. If a training course must be completed, then schedule enough people on duty so that it's possible to leave the sales floor and complete their training.

    Pros

While I cannot speak for the rest of the store, working in Appliances as a Sales Specialist is the best job in the store. Unlimited earning potential.

    Cons

Of course Lowe's being classified as Retail, you are required to work an odd schedule. Also often times, you'll will get very little respect from Zone Managers and other Sales Specialists throughout the store because of the money you make (Personal Experience).

    Advice to Management

I would have to say hire more CSA's (Customer Service Associates). As a Sales Specialist you are required and expected to sell. On a busy day, you will spend a lot of the time picking your own appliances for customers due to not having enough help.
