I worked at Lucas Systems (Pennsylvania) full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Some of the brightest and best engineers I've worked with were at Lucas. Interesting project work and technologies.

Cons

Poor management, lack of vision. Continues to try and reinvent the wheel instead of thinking outside the box. Extremely high turnover rates. Complete disregard for work/life balance. No room to advance within organizational structure for engineers.

Advice to Management

As history continues to repeat itself, look in the mirror for the problem.

    Pros

    Very interesting technical work and opportunities for advancement in many areas. Diverse & impressive customer base & technical areas give people who like to blaze their own trail the opportunity to create their own niche or create their own position. There is a very bright and creative core group of employees.

    Cons

    Project-based work can override research & development efforts and poorly-defined requirements can create context-switching situations for project teams or individual engineers.

    Pros

    There is a casual work environment, some really good people, a variety of interesting technical areas, and opportunity to travel. It is an opportunity to learn the distribution industry from the inside. The development teams are really invested in their work and have a strong sense of camaraderie.

    Cons

    There is little opportunity for advancement. The internal culture is often chaotic and includes minimal commitment to innovation and long-term technical planning. The wide variety of client-project obligations is hectic and stressful, sometimes overwhelming. Turnover among application developers and their direct leadership has been high, while turnover in senior management is virtually non-existent.

    Advice to Management

    Be more constructively involved in day-to-day operations and technical goals.
