fantastic reliability in manufacturing

Cons

IT is rabid regarding security, requiring work-arounds
Doesn't seem to be much of a long-term strategy
Still seems to be a lot of baggage from bankruptcy
Conflict adverse with individuals
More likely to change policies than manage performance

Advice to Management

Embrace 21st Century
Treat employees as adults, instead of children
Embrace common employee retention programs like flex schedules
Trust your employees and come down hard on just those who break the rules

I have been working at LyondellBasell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company is well positioned in the market, with excellent vertical integration, and many talented people. With shell gas influenced price competitiveness LYB is doing the right things well ahead of competition.

    Cons

In this aggressive talent focused market LYB has been slow to respond to competitive changes in salary. New HR leadership is trying to make course corrections, but there is strong resistance from some of the top leadership.

    Advice to Management

Don't loose focus on the people making things happen.

I have been working at LyondellBasell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is decent, lots to learn and experience if you are willing to create such an environment for yourself.

    Cons

Leadership has no long term vision and believes in fix it for now approach with its manufacturing assets as well as human assets. That leaves people being considered a replaceable asset. Managment doesn't seem to have clear goals, and there is very little emphasis on creating new or improving work processes. Culture is elitist, meaning its ok and acceptable for a senior person to treat people in a disrespectful manner.

    Advice to Management

Upper leadership needs to be shaken up or replaced. The company is not in bankruptsy anymore and should not be run like one. Develop longer term plans with assets as well as people retention.
