Pros

MIT provides opportunities for learning and development at all levels of the Institution. Staff is treated well and encouraged to take control of their own learning with Institute-supported development and training as well as tuition reimbursement.

Cons

Tips for job seekers: it is a very competitive environment with lots of qualified candidates for open positions.

Advice to Management

It has been amazing to see the transition in the past year among the senior leaders. The new teams have set a strong tone in a new era. WE ARE ONE MIT, and the vision for the future will carry us through!

I have been working at MIT full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Collaborate with the best and smartest, learn and able to challenge and improve yourself constantly, very collaborative atmosphere, work hard play hard. If you want to learn or try something new, this is the place to be.

    Cons

Not much of a work-life balance, i.e. people work on weekends and nights. Intensity and pace of things going on can be overwhelming at times, fairly high stress work place. Facilities are decent, but definitely not the best.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at MIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is an amazing place to undertake consulting and depending on whom your PI is it can be a very good opportunity.

    Cons

Boston/Cambridge is expensive. You need to supplement your income. MIT does not pay well because there is a 50% tax that goes to the MIT bureaucrats. There are probably at least 3 of them controlling what you do who contribute to the overhead expenses. There are a lot of "Queens and Kings" in every department because of poor leadership from the directors, deans and department heads.

    Advice to Management

MIT desperately needs management and mentorship towards its employees and students.
