I have been working at MITRE full-time

    Pros

The work is meaningful. Significant potential to make a positive impact at the higher levels of government. Great facilities. Management is starting to focus more on employee experience. Fantastic benefits, especially retirement (although you have to stay with the company over a year to receive much benefit). Great educational benefits. Wondering if some of the other negative reviews here on Glassdoor are from other companies that don't want MITRE to succeed in attracting great people to join the company. Really, Mitre is a good place to work.

    Cons

It takes significant effort to get plugged in with co-workers and projects. Expectations for success for individual employees and projects are not usually clear. I was expecting more flexibility in my schedule and commute (now at customer site nearly 100%) of the time. Seems like it takes a very long time to move up in the company or receive a promotion.

I have been working at MITRE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Good work / life balance - Opportunities for variety in work (if you want to learn something new, or work on something new, you can do that within the organizations) - Fairly transparent leadership - Competitive salary for the public health field - Opportunities for professional development and learning and growing - Flexibility (in work location, work hours, etc)

    Cons

    - Sometimes work feels rushed and perhaps a bit focused on pleasing the sponsor sometimes at the cost of being thorough and data-informed - A decent amount of turnover in leadership and organizational structure - Buzzwords for organizational structure and business strategy don't always seem like the clearest way of communicating strategy

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at MITRE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Collaborative and smart colleagues, learning culture, opportunities to grow capabilities, mission-oriented focus, non-profit

    Cons

Leadership under current CEO has been a continual revolving door, with recent lay-offs and a reorganization that is ill-timed during the COVID crisis and apparent financial health. The only people who are promoted know how to manage upward, and are not based on merit.
