Pros

Innovation is a constant - the variables that come are challenges not problems. Everyone is knowledgeable and willing to work as a team.

Cons

Unknowns. It is a startup company with few resources and limited access to funds.

Advice to Management

Clearly delineate the job functions. Make sure that everyone knows their jobs and sticks to just their job. This will eliminate duplication of efforts that eventually lead to frustration.

    Pros

Startups offer the most flexible schedules, the best opportunities for innovation, and the potential for rapid advancement. Additionally, there is a healthy spirit of cooperation among everyone to get things done.

    Cons

The same flexible schedule that I liked also had the downside of being very long sometimes. You have to wear many hats in a startup, and the money isn't always there for both salaries/benefits and needed infrastructure support.

    Advice to Management

Once the company became funded, new people were brought in who had no knowledge of the prior personnel that helped found the organization. The new people were also oblivious to the personal and professional sacrifices made by the original employees, and there was an almost immediate emnity between the "old" employees and the "new" ones. The company stopped being a place of inclusiveness and cooperation, and became yet another "corporate America" style company. The only thing that mattered in the end was ensuring that shareholders' returns were good - no matter what had to be sacrificed in order to achieve that goal. Very unfortunate for a place that was a great place to work at one time.
