I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

I work with a great team.

Cons

Cutting labor cost down to the point that customer service is non-exisitent.

Advice to Management

Management should lead by example. Work and support employees not just walk past them or a mess.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are very nice, at my location anyways
    Great breakroom
    Uniforms are easy- all black
    Discount is pretty good.

    Cons

Pressure to meet often unrealistic sales goals. If sales goals aren't met, you don't make commission. Basically stuck at minimum wage if sales goals aren't met
    Pressure to sell credit cards
Ridiculous hours, either way too many or hardly enough, plus the schedule is always changing
Only get a break if I work 6 hours or more, so if I work 6 hours only I will be on my feet the entire time.
expected to be a cashier, do recovery, customer service , and act as a stylist for every customer that walks in. Macy's expects a whole lot for very little pay, plus the added pressure of selling credit and meeting goals that will determine if your get commission or not

    Advice to Management

Maybe focus more on your merchandise than trying to sell credit. Also, stop expecting so much out fnyour employees if your are hardly going to pay them

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Made $14 an hour plus commission in under a year. (also recieved TONS of free skin care & other incentives). SF Union Square location is a Union job-some love this, I didn't. Made tons of friends which made for a fun environment with good music.

    Cons

Union dues. Must be cut out for job that is very cut throat. Daily sales goals, counter goals, & credit card goals to meet. Must meet sales goals without stepping on co-workers toes because everyone can turn on you & c-block you from making any sales. Must have tough skin. Some of the practices & values behind this company are also a bit shocking. Hard to spend money there when you know what they're all about.

    Advice to Management

Managers are under a lot of stress & it trickles down.
