I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Want to shine at group interview? Complete the online app - prior to attending the interview. Print it out. Bring a pen. Study five things about Macy's - opened when? how many stores? Is it Union? Where is the flagship store? Raise your hand and get noticed.
You will appear smart and professional and prepared. The hiring bar is very low. Be 18...and you very well may get hired. Hiring and 4 hr training can take a couple of days.

Cons

Macys does not go out of the way to supply ergonomic chairs, desks, computers, key boards. My office was a closet. Funky only begins to describe. Department managers were slaves to the job and were asked to jump through hoops on a daily basis. The Manager thought providing candy at meetings would assuage the exhaustion and frustration. Not in this lifetime.
Noticed Employees called in sick - a lot. My manager was over worked and short-fused and a piece of work.

Advice to Management

Very impressed when Store manager came to the training. On my last day - had to leave due to:
couldn't live on the tiny salary and worked way too hard - the manager simply walked
past me. Very unprofessional

    I have been working at Macy's full-time

    Pros

summer fridays (but many departments have too much work and cant take advantage of it) its in san francisco downtown and close to bart, but moving soon and will no longer be as convenient for commuters.

    Cons

decisions are made by people who dont have experience outside of this company, old school of thinking in many areas. title matters more than knowledge. technology dept influences many decisions, but its only to keep up with the joneses. technology managers are not experienced technologists. too often problem employees are moved from one department to another. hr cares more about keeping tenured people employed and less about losing talented people. managers react when staff resigns and quickly counter-offers, but the morale and work-load never changes. throwing more money can only do so much, eventually smart people leave and old timers stay.

    Advice to Management

get rid of old timers, bring in fresh talent. this goes for the entire company, not just one group.
