I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Commissioned sales, friendly staff, scheduled breaks

Cons

difficult to reach threshold for commissions

Advice to Management

Management was ok. There were some quarrels, but I don't think that can be avoided when cultures clash...

    I worked at Macy's full-time

    Pros

If you are a people person than providing customer service will be great. It's a job so your able to say you have one.

    Cons

Management are non educated and walk the floor asking if you have stars, too fill the floor, and help guest. Draw vs commission meaning they will pay minimum wage but you have to cover that amount with your commission and if you don't than you fall into deficit owing the company so you will be stuck at minimum wage until its paid back. Other associates steal sales from each other, managers and associates flip sales from you so you won't get credit for the sales. When a customer return merchandise and your number is on it it takes from your commission even if you sold it too them a year ago( it's retail people will return things why should it be your fault, cause the company return policy is garbage). I worked for mall at millennia Macys for many years and this company is one i will never return too. Your average draw per day is anywhere from 1200-1600 and that's just what you must sell in order to not owe the company. They hire people left and right throwing them on the floor not trained and you must shark it out amongst each other daily in order to try avoiding being written up or falling into deficit. In order to move up in this company is not based on performance it's who you know and who likes you that's the pure truth. You get hourly pay weekly and commission onto hourly every two weeks, the company does this in hopes that associates will not perform consecutively every week hence not the associate falling into deficit and not receiving as much commission.

    Advice to Management

Many managers have been there for years and years. And they know they are not moving up in that sad company and take it out on associates. Make sure your management has proper education and has not been there for 20 or 30 years and trying to go back to school seeing that is still not enough for them to go Into higher rankings cause they become even worse managers and unable to manage a business even more and more.
