I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Potential to move quickly, lots of growth potential. Get to interact with so many different people and personalities on a daily basis. Never gets boring or mundane.

Cons

Poor communication, some expectations not clearly articulated. You completely own your learning curve, which can be beneficial sometimes, but it mostly creates a more stressful workplace due to high-pressure situations that you encounter without anyone preparing you for them.

Advice to Management

For upper management: if you expect your direct reports to treat their direct reports with cordiality, respect, over-exaggerated recognition and positivity, and entrust them as skilled individuals to get their job done, then you should hold yourselves to the same expectations instead of being exempt from any company directives with respect to management tactics and team engagement.

"Good co-workers and manager but inadequate training"

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1. Good co-workers
    2. Part time employees can pick up extra hours when they are available
    3. You can go online to check your work schedule and payroll info. Very convenient.
    4. I have a very good department manager
    5. You don't have to stay past closing to finish up anything. When the store closes, you close out your register and go home.

    Cons

    1. Inadequate training. I felt very unprepared on my first day.
    2. Unrealistic sales goals. You must average at least 95% of your sales goals each week or you don't get any points on your report card. They don't allow for an occasional slow day nor do they adjust your goal accordingly if you are moved to another department at the last minute.
    3. Difficult to keep track of all the sales they have and what discounts are available for customers on different products.
    4. Too much emphasis on signing people up for Macy's Credit Cards and other promotions.
    5. Low pay

    Advice to Management

Better training for new employees. Give them more time to train on the cash register. It can do so many things, most of which I learned on the job from other sales associates and not in the training classes. Ultimately this provides better service to the customers.
If an employee is having difficulty with something, don't just tell them they need to improve, show them how! Be specific!

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent hours at first, decent employees, store discount on clothes

    Cons

Hours dwindle. consistent scheduling outside of availability, insite is a broken system, horrid management, awful moral, terrible policy

    Advice to Management

Focus on improving moral! I have never worked in an environment were almost all associates hated working there, it literally feels like life is being sucked out of you when you clock on. Management, policy, and administrative support require drastic eradication or improvement. The company is being run to the ground.
