I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Flexible schedules, you can advertise and swap your swift all online. Easy to view job information on their employee website.
20% discount on almost anything on top of coupons, plus 30% certain days
Managers were nice and easy to work with, depends on the location
For retail it's not that bad, it's easy work when it's not busy and they don' really pay much attention to what you're doing

Cons

Lack of training in the beginning. I was put in front of a computer and that was my training. When I was on the selling floor there was very little direction for new employees. My first day I was left in an area by myself.

Advice to Management

Have a better way of training employees.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Probably room for growth. Could take as many hours as you'd like.
Average employee was very nice and helpful and HR was great.
Obviously customer service is very important.

    Cons

Absolutely no direction whatsoever. Christmas time was very, very hectic and as a 'Star Selling Ambassador,' I was supposed to essentially take care of a department while the managers are away. Unfortunately, they started me on Black Friday after only 3 days of regular register training. I was completely overwhelmed to say the least. I wasn't allowed to ring. I was supposed to be able to answer customer's tiniest demands without knowing the company's policies on most situations. I couldn't contact the managers and, if I did, I would be given a huge attitude. I feel like it could have been a great position with at least a little bit of direction. I was uncertain of my responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

Train your SSAs. Start them early (NOT on Black Friday). Take year-round employees and make them SSAs rather than taking in someone brand new to manage people that have been there for years.
