I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

When the ideologies of the company are exemplified, work is very fulfilling. You are not trained to be a shark, you're trained to work with a customer to use the tools available to ensure they get the best deal they can.

    Cons

It can be hit-and-miss with managers and coworkers but that's just life in general. The pay isn't great and retail is always difficult. The Macy's Star Rewards program (their credit card) can be a great tool or a great curse, as with any credit card. There's a lot of pressure on sales associates to open them.

    Advice to Management

Associates are taught the acronym MAGIC to guide them in dealing with customers. When managers take those same principles and attitudes and adapt them to their jobs, with the associate as the "customer" the entire work experience is enhanced.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You are able to get paid time off, after a while you get paid holidays and the schedule is easy to work with.

    Cons

A lot of the managers take the title "manager" to their heads. You are always easy to replace, the manager will suck up to customers and make the associates look stupid. They're always pushing our department to be clean with no help, so like 3 associates cleaning and managing 4 registers and then they get upset when the clothes start piling up. No growth or promotions. Low pay.

    Advice to Management

The managers need to step up as managers because all they do is give the associates orders and then go disappear from their own department nagging how it's untidy yet they never lift a single piece of clothing off the floor.
