I worked at Madison Concourse Hotel full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Everyone working the front line of customer service (front desk, bell, housekeeping) is friendly. The hotel has quite a few corporate contracts that are pretty good at keeping occupancy relatively high throughout the year.

Cons

There is a gorge between management and employees that cannot be crossed. They will hire from outside instead of promoting within. Very little room for growth.

Advice to Management

Treat your employees like intelligent creatures with their own ideas, instead of relying on them to fix crisis issues that you created. Groom them to promote them, instead of hiring outside the company and having to introduce some newbie to the culture of the hotel.

I worked at Madison Concourse Hotel part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Friendly coworkers and certain people in HR
    - Twice a year there are celebrations for all the hotel staff, with food, drinks, games and raffles
    - Convenient downtown location with free parking for the employees (unlike the Monona Terrace)
    - Decent food

    Cons

    - High manager turnover rate in certain departments
    - Some signs of favoritism and unfair career advances, as well as selective rule enforcement (what one employee gets away with all the time, another one gets punished for)
    - Certain employee-only areas have problem with air circulation (that's one of my biggest reasons for quitting)- stale, hot air in the summer and chilly temperatures in the wintertime
    - Severely fluctuating work availability and pay rates in certain departments
    - Mediocre sales and event planning team

    Advice to Management

The main focus should be on fairness and equal rule enforcement for all employees. Unfortunately, there's too much favoritism going on- certain employees are using their cell phones during work, in a guest-accessed area, and that looks very unprofessional. Also, hard work should be rewarded more than social skills.
