I have been working at Manulife full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Big organization with a lot of Actuarial roles. Very nice Senior Management in Actuarial teams that can teach you a lot Work is visible and promotions can be quick and is becoming more merit-based. Nnice study days for exams, good work-life balance, and ability to work remotely later. Great place to train and become an experienced actuary.

    Cons

Recent CEO change has brought a lot of re-organization, so you need to be adaptive. However, the focus of new management is good.

    Advice to Management

Need to invest more into advertisement and recruitment to attract young actuarial talents.

I have been working at Manulife full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Amazing co-workers, work from home capabilities, socially aware culture.

    Cons

Lack of forward thinking strategy outside of capitalizing on Asia growth, which will eventually plateau. Stock price continues to remain flat, as it has for most of the 2010's. Senior leadership within the technology stack is grossly dysfunctional and has destroyed employee morale. Many talented employees have left, those who remain are doing so to collect annual bonuses and wait out possible severance... packages.

    Advice to Management

Up until a few years ago, Manulife was a great place to work. It's quite sad to see what it has become. Clean house, starting with CTO Curt Smith. Roy Gori should focus less on fancy white suits and dancing videos, and more on developing new North American products.
