I worked at March of Dimes as an intern

Pros

I was given a lot of responsibility, but this was due to some disorganization in the office.

Cons

The office was understaffed, underpaid. One employee was expected to drive around the state every few weeks for meetings in other counties without any reimbursement for miles/gas.

Advice to Management

Your employees are stretched too thin, maybe try to focus your attention on fewer events and make the others better.

I have been working at March of Dimes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Admirable mission with a rich history

    Cons

Wasteful. Do not use funds to build and retain hard-working, achievement driven employees, which at the end of the day are the foundation of any successful nonprofit or business. By underappreciating, under-paying and severely overworking its staff, the organization successfully drives away any talent that comes its way. Turnover is a huge problem and wastes funds that could otherwise go back to its mission. It's very unfortunate.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to treat this non-profit business just like any other business. Employees should not be rewarded for his/her time with the organization overall but for his/her qualitative and quantitative accomplishments and ability to manage responsibilities and relationships with volunteers and staff.
