I have been working at March of Dimes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Admirable mission with a rich history

    Cons

Wasteful. Do not use funds to build and retain hard-working, achievement driven employees, which at the end of the day are the foundation of any successful nonprofit or business. By underappreciating, under-paying and severely overworking its staff, the organization successfully drives away any talent that comes its way. Turnover is a huge problem and wastes funds that could otherwise go back to its mission. It's very unfortunate.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to treat this non-profit business just like any other business. Employees should not be rewarded for his/her time with the organization overall but for his/her qualitative and quantitative accomplishments and ability to manage responsibilities and relationships with volunteers and staff.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    - laid back dress code
    - flexible, you can come in whenever you feel like it (as demonstrated by "management"
    - meet great people through committees

    Cons

    - empty promise after empty promise when it comes to raises
    - management... wait, there is no management
    - horrible work/personal life balance. This job demands a lot of your weekends and evenings without comp time, let alone compensation. It's not worth it for the "just above minimum wage" you'll make.
    - the most unprofessional place I've ever worked

    Advice to Management

Figure out what direction you want the foundation to go. Then, learn how to communicate that. After that, put some management in place and execute the plan.
