I worked at March of Dimes as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

Worked with great people but inconsistent standards of performance. Little supervision or coaching of problematic co-worker led to resentments from fellow employees held to a higher standard.

Cons

March of Dimes puts as much pressure on employees as it does on donors to contribute. There is an ongoing pressure to get donations from employees and their friends to the point of being uncomfortable (for me).

Advice to Management

Know when to say "when." It's bad enough that you are known to barrage one-time donors time and time and time again (more than other NFP), but with employees, there is an added pressure implied. Tone it down!

I worked at March of Dimes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great support from management. Great teamwork among staff and volunteers. And the mission of helping educate and raise money for healthier babies is kept front and center.

    Cons

Lots of extra hours to help support the kind of teamwork that is provided. But if you know that and have extra time, it is not necessarily a con.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on the worker burn out. It is a job that requires dedication to a mission. Management has great training and work support, good days off. Follow up to make sure employees use them.

  2. Helpful (2)

"Lots of work and dedication with no future."

I worked at March of Dimes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some in March of Dimes are honestly committed and work very hard to assist parents of and children with birth defects.

    Cons

To move up within this organization is practically impossible, regardless of years working there or the excellence of the work performed. In addition, salaries are low for all the responsibilities employees have.

    Advice to Management

Remember to invest in the future. No position is forever.
