Pros

Very friendly people - most workers are amazing people to work with and will be willing to help you

Cons

Constant OT - All employees are expected to work OT regularly. Most employees are expected to be on standby 24/7 and respond to texts. No middle management - People are lost and lack guidance. This can lead to less than optimal decisions and waste even more time as well as affect company performance Perpetual confusion - No one knows what they are doing and roles are unclear. It is easy to become misled by confused people, causing even more confusion. Unappreciative CEO and Founder - They expect maximum output with minimal effort to motivate employees and outline goals. No employee, other than the few who have remained there for years, stay for over a year. For proof, see LinkedIn. That's a red flag. The company regularly hires consultants for a year or so before getting rid of them so no concrete progress that's made, if any, stays. Paranoid and secretive culture - Some employees know things that other employees don't for information that should be transparent to all. This affects performance and efficiency due to having to jump so many hoops to find out small things and contributes to the ongoing confusion. You better be good at figuring out puzzles and using that to determine what needs to be done and how to quickly do it Long, unproductive meetings - Weekly meetings last anywhere from 1-2 hours. Sometimes there will be multiple meetings within a day that can last even longer, meaning no actual work is actually done. Conversations are repeated so nothing is new and no concepts are actually applied Weak profits and outdated business practices - The company has encouraged employees to offer suggestions to improve business for years. None of those suggestions are ever taken seriously and implemented. The company relies on practices that made them a success several years ago, but are no longer effective in today's tech-heavy world. There is no marketing, no sales team and no new business. Relationships with vendors and partners are often burned due to mismanagement. As a result, there is no clear career path, no growth, meaning this is a dead end job. Cult-like Environment - All decisions must be vetted by the founder and CEO, Maria or her husband, Peter. All emails must be vetted by one or more people. All discussions, small or big, must revolve around Maria and what she will think. Employees have to gauge whether decisions will cause her to go crazy. This is the ultimate example of micromanagement because it not only prevents employees from learning to make decisions but also wastes a lot of time. Employees are told by Maria to pour water, serve food, and perform unrelated tasks regularly. Regardless of position, all employees must prioritize performing secretarial tasks over their more critical responsibilities. Poor Leadership - Decisions can change over night on a regular basis no matter how important based on what Maria is thinking that day. This forces employees to not only spend more time, but increases confusion and makes actions less effective. While any work environment is subject to regular hurried deadlines, everything is always in a rush with no clear objective.

Cons

a company in crisis. A clear lack of values - The values they practice, not the ones they write in their "maria yee" or "sun at six" brand statements. This result in management (a family of 4) saying all the things they think you want to hear, whether it is claiming to their clients that pieces are handmade while actually working on automation, or proclaiming they appreciate work while giving no raises or benefits to their employees, they inevitably fail to practice what they preach and go into hiding when they are asked of these failures. With their lack of values, their motivation is only the bottom line and an incredible sense of narcissism that closes them off to any sound advice or suggestion, and instead operates daily on telling lies to clients and employees. The leadership rules by decree, micro-managing every aspect of the business, exhibiting deep mistrust and allowing no agency for any employee - it is abusive. Working here is confusing, demoralizing, demeaning, and offers next to no benefits. Pay is far below market rate, performance reviews are performative at best. leadership changes their minds on a whim, depending on which family member plays boss on any given day, policies change as they rotate around their titles, and between sun at six and maria yee. This company lacks purpose, planning, profits and seemingly exists only to massage the egos of the founders and their adult children. The best thing about working here is that it showed me everything I need to avoid in my future career, and having now started work at a different employer, I realize what it means to be treated with respect, be valued and trusted. it will take me time to recover from the experience of working here and i sincerely don't wish it upon anyone.
