I have been working at Marin Software full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Great co-workers
Excellent life/work balance
Everyone is well paid, almost too well paid
Amazing location
Everyone works hard

Cons

Getting to be too bureaucratic
Upper management only available to Ivy Leaguers
New features of product are half-baked, take too long to develop, and seem to lack innovation

Advice to Management

Come up with our own ideas, not what's driven by sales. If there's no innovation within the company, talented contributors will leave. Act like you've been there and lead, don't react. If we aren't careful, we will get lapped by our competitors.

    Pros

    1. They pay half your commuting costs
    2. Kitchen is stacked
    3. Micro Management is frowned upon
    4. CEO is an actual human being
    5. Tenacious - when it comes to getting the deal
    6. Good People all around in the organization
    7. Deficiencies are "worn on the sleeve" and company is always trying to improve itself.

    Cons

    1. Dev Cycles are slow
    2. Google defines the rules, which means the game can be changed quickly.
    3. Services is leaned on heavy to accommodate the lack of supporting 3rd party publisher features.
    4. Market moves faster than Software development which means lots of expectation setting with customers anxious to utilize new market features.
    5. Margins on Services side are watched closely

    Advice to Management

Management needs to get on the same page on the direction the product needs to go in. Management also needs to work more collaboratively across teams to see where opportunities for efficiency gains exist.

I worked at Marin Software as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is very nice. Typical start-up with very nice offices and nice people of course. They have really good experienced engineers and learned a lot.

    Cons

Some times the pod system could be confusing, and it might put you in a multi-tasking position.
