Pros

Marriott has a wonderful culture. People are very team oriented, supportive and encouraging. They are open to sharing their wealth of knowledge and you know it's a great place when you have so many for-lifers who have climbed the ladder over a span of 20-30 years. You also have great perks - benefits are top notch plus you add in the associate discount for hotels. You can't beat it! Everywhere you go, there's a Marriott hotel so it means growth potential like crazy, plus a footprint you and your family can take advantage of.

Cons

It's a huge, complex company with a lot of bureaucracy but it comes with the territory of being such a large company. Compensation is not in the higher percentile but they make up for it with work/life balance, family emphasis and great benefits.

Advice to Management

Continue to communicate and celebrate in the way that you have. May be time to update HQ's which are a little outdated.

    Pros

    Great discounts on hotels
If you need money, very flexible, great hours
    Worked downtown, met many people
    Great Assistant General Manager

    Cons

hotel discount not available on holiday weekends
every hotel is different, corporate marriots have their own rules and pay, independent marriots have their own rules and pay

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be more organized, all marriots whether independent owned or corporate owned should have the same pay, there should be know reason your hourly based pay should ever go down, when moving to another hotel

    Pros

The hotel discounts for all members of the staff is one of the best perks of working for Marriott. The job itself, wasn't bad, and they do allow for you to stay and move up. I worked at a franchise location, so I'm sure it really varies a lot by property.

    Cons

It probably really varies by property, but at our specific property, the management was new and at times, we knew more about the system than they did and how to interact with the guests, but were never given the credit. I knew it was a temporary position though so it didn't bother me as much as other people who were making it into a career.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge staff who are going above and beyond in their work. If someone is excelling, do not just make short comments here and there, and then take advantage of it, but actually do something so they want to stay!
