Pros

The location is great, the people are nice, the work life balance is fanatastic, and there are tons of opportunities to move around.

Cons

Definitely the pay. I always felt underpaid. There are some people in top positions that made it there because they did their previous jobs well, but they should not be leading large departments. Additionally, people are afraid of looking bad so they don't share information. Lastly, the company does not seem to value higher degrees.

Advice to Management

If you don't reward people (with pay) for doing an excellent job, you will lose them. All the mediocre people will stay and you will end up with an organization like the US government.

"Marriott is an awesome company to work for, though compensation is all over the board within departments."

    Pros

Marriott is very supportive of moving up within the company. There is an infinite amount of training and information that is available to all employees who wish to take it upon themselves to learn more about the company, the standards of operation, advancing their career, dealing with personal matters in their lives, etc... The corporate culture is very rich throughout the company and everyone works to keep it in place. Also, the company does a lot of charitable deeds within the community and for it's associates.

    Cons

The pay structure is not good. If you unknowingly go in too low, you'll quickly be passed up, wage-wise, by new hires with less experience, because once you're in it's a max of an annual increase of 3%.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes we need more than the pat on the back reward...Look at the fairness of the pay scale within departments.

    Pros

Quality product - training and upwardly advancement opportunities. Product maintenance and quality are always top notch - standards are adhered to. Leader in this market, while a franchise operation, very much supported by Marriott Corporation. Top rated hotel in the market is a draw for leisure and corporate groups alike. Local reputation as well as national - a magnet for convention business being adjacent to convention center and for leisure especially when science center is completed.

    Cons

Takes a lot of effort to stand out on the corporate side. Sales is formulaic and often reduced to the process of just filling out forms.

    Advice to Management

Personalize the operation so that sales employees are allowed more opportunities for creativity.
