Pros

If you are able to start in a management in training program with a corporate owned Marriott, you should do well. Stay away from franchise owned property management programs.

Cons

Your success is at the grace of the local market trend. At times it can be robust, at times depressing. There tends to not be much attrition on upper level management.

I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to grow if you work hard. Company is flexible if you prove yourself. Large amounts of growth and change going on due to globalization -- this can be both good and bad. This is still a place where you can make a career for yourself and explore a number of different jobs.

    Cons

Benefits are good but not great. Some divisions at HQ are very flat and there is little room for promotion within a skill set. Property level associates have more room for advancement, it appears, so long as you are willing to move. This is still a "good ole boys" place to a large degree and senior management can be very conservative.

    Advice to Management

Be agile. Use technology. Allow all associates to have a real voice (and that isn't the Associate Satisfaction Survey).

I worked at Marriott International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Medical and retirement Benefits, Family orientated company, Good potential for advancement, Experience, Exposure, Travel opportunities, Good pay, Company employee benefits

    Cons

The only con I can think of is the management company of the property you may work for. If it is not a corporate location you may be subject to the regulations of the franchise.
