Pros

Excellent place to work, great learning environment to gain skills needed to advance to higher levels. Great core values and benefits. They are everywhere so you could move to a lot of different places.

Cons

Only cons I can come up with is that the one I worked for was for a chain and not a true Marriott and did not have the full benefits of a full brand marriott but the management there did a great job providing all they could

    I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great place that had a friendly atmosphere, with employees dedicated to doing their best for the business units. The intiatives we worked on were very interesting and kept us engaged.

    Cons

    Marriott is now outsourcing their IT department to companies with offshore contract employees. They think it will help them be competitive, but it is going to decrease productivity and efficiency that was in place prior to the outsourcing.

    Advice to Management

    Management needs to realize that other companies that had outsourced are now insourcing. Outsourcing really isn't going to save money in the long run because you will spend so much extra money cleaning up faulty programs implemented by offshore contractors.

    Pros

    Every Marriott I've worked at is very good at treating their employees well. This will vary a little depending on whether the property is a franchise or managed by corporate, however, the culture Marriott encourages is very positive regardless of the management.

    Cons

    When starting out in the industry the pay can be pretty low. Working in departments like housekeeping can be a very thankless job with very high standards and very little time to accomplish them. Departments like the front desk can be very stressful and sometimes the guests can be the worst part of the job.

    Advice to Management

    Don't micro-manage. Give your staff (especially the front desk) the tools they need to let that guest walk away smiling.
